I bought this lens new from Amazon at the end of June (receipt included) to accompany a Canon DSLR I had just bought as an upgrade from a Canon compact. I particularly wanted a better camera in time to take photos at a family wedding. The camera and lens worked very well, but I hadn’t taken into account the crop factor with an APS-C sized DSLR sensor (apparently making the lens’ effective focal length 45-216mm rather than 28-135mm). Unfortunately therefore although the lens becomes more effective for someone wanting a telephoto zoom, much of the photography I wish to do requires a lens with a wider angle. I therefore hope to buy a genuinely wide angly zoom lens. These seem to be remarkably expensive, to say the least, so I need to sell the 28-135mm towards the cost of the replacement. The lens is as new, and has hardly been used. I also bought a Canon UV 72mm filter to protect the lens and this is included. As previously mentioned, I bought the lens new from Amazon (supplied by an Amazon seller called ‘On-sale’) and hadn’t realised that it was white-box stock until it arrived. I therefore contacted On-sale in order to query the warranty as there was nothing with the lens in the box. They informed me that the lens was brand new UK stock, supplied as kit lenses with Canon DSLRs, and is fully covered by the Canon warranty. As a good will gesture they also sent me a 2 year extended warranty (see photo) which I have yet to register (I haven’t registered the Canon warranty yet on the Canon website either). I paid £299.99 for the lens plus postage, I’m hoping to sell the lens for around £200, so this, plus the included Canon UV protector filter, means that any buyer will have a superb lens at a bargain price.
